Brand New South American Tropical Rainforest and Aviary at San Francisco Zoo.
Visit the rainforests of South America this summer at the San Francisco Zoo! The brand new South American Tropical Rainforest and Aviary is a 200,000 cubic foot habitat featuring multiple animal species, from the stiff-tailed ruddy duck to the smoky jungle frog and the two-toed sloth. Approximately 50 reptiles and amphibians, the first significant herpetological collection ever at the Zoo, include a South American green snake and a Surinam "star-fingered" toad. Blue headed macaws and Cuban amazons are some of the free flying birds exhibited throughout the Rainforest and Aviary, and high-tech feeders tucked into a huge fallen tree will challenge and engage the birds to find their food as they do in the wild. The South American Tropical Rainforest and Aviary will connect you with some of the unusual and rare animals that inhabit the rainforest and bring attention to the disastrous loss of habitat caused by deforestation.
